Fat and Water Soluble Vitamins

Probably every single book about nutrition we read states that the key elements for a healthy body are vitamins. This is the main reason why most people have fruits and vegetables in their everyday eating plan. The good thing is, that in case we don't obtain the recommended doses of vitamins and minerals from food, we can always start using vitamin supplements. You have definitely heard about A, C, D, E or the B Complex. However, not many people know that there are fat-soluble and water-vitamin.

What are Fat-Soluble Vitamins?

According to the definition, fat-soluble are those that can be dissolved in fats or lipids. This is the reason why we call these vitamins, lipid-soluble. The group of fat contains four different vitamins. These are:

• Vitamin A
• Vitamin D
• Vitamin E
• Vitamin K

If we take a close look at the structure of these vitamins, we can see that they are quite similar. These are very important for the daily functions of our body. They are usually dissolved in the lipids existing in our body. Because of that, these fat-soluble are kept and stored in the body for further use.

What are Water-Soluble Vitamins?

Water vitamins, as their name says ate those vitamins which are soluble in water. This group includes nine vitamins. They are C and all the from the B Complex group, all 8 of them. The bad thing about these vitamin is that they are easily released from the body. They don't have the ability of fat vitamin to get stored. This is the reason why these should be included in the everyday diet and replenished daily.

Both water-soluble and fat vitamins are equally important for our health and the strength of our body. They have to be taken with a healthy and balanced diet if we want to receive the recommended daily doses of them. Foods rich in fish oil and omega-3 fatty acids should be consumed because they are rich in A and D. Also there are many foods on the market that are fortified in order to help us meet our nutritional need. Besides these foods, we can use supplements or multivitamins, and it is a good way to ensure we get enough of both water-soluble and fat-soluble. In case we don't obtain an adequate amount of any of these we can experience severe health complications, so the best way to prevent that is to take care of our diet. Additionally, taking enough fats and liquids in our diet is a great way to assure our body gets the most from the vitamins we take.
